The history of Phu Quoc Island   has been recounted before. And for most tourists visiting the island, all that matters is the relative merits of the island’s sandy shorelines – working out which is the best beach on Phu Quoc: Ba Keo or Bai Sao.  Or maybe it’s where to get the best seafood? Is it at the legendary local joint Ra Khoi Seafood Phu Quoc or at Crab House Phu Quoc with its cajun flavors, or somewhere more modern, like Nage Restaurant with its contemporary Australian accents, or to stay at your  Phu Quoc Resort  and eat in-house at The Spice House, at Cassia Cottage. Or maybe it’s where to get the best bowl of  bun quay . Is it at Bun Quay Kien Xay in the heart of Duong Dong Town that has a claim to be the original, or Bun Quay Thanh Hung, that’s only a ten minute walk away.  But even a short trip can be enriched by understanding the history of Phu Quoc Island. Life at your  Phu Quoc resort  will undoubtedly be calming and sunkissed, but even the most ardent beach lover nee

The true cost of tree planting

Find out why reforestation is not the place to slash prices and cut corners. How much does it cost to plant a tree? As more and more organisations start offering regenerative actions like reforestation, the variety of options (and prices) has multiplied. Singapore’s National Parks Board will plant a tree for $250. Across the United Nations community, costs range from $10 per tree to $1. Some programmes even claim to be able to plant a tree for as little as 10 cents.  Obviously there’s a big difference between planting a tree on the cheap and planting a tree  effectively.  The reality is that tree planting is hard work. Consider what needs to happen to raise a viable tree. Healthy seeds need to be nurtured into strong saplings. Saplings need to be planted well in soil that is primed to give them the best chance. The young trees then need to be monitored to support long-term survival. Not to mention that funding is needed to support the communities living around the reforested areas –

Green Tech didn't work in the '90s but why is it blooming now?

The green tech industry has been around for years but is only now starting to blossom. What’s taken so long? To answer this question, we need to rewind. The classic ‘green tech’ sector was born way back in the 1990s. It was a broad umbrella term for any technology that was environmentally friendly or sustainable – from the production process to the supply chain. The words ‘green tech’ will probably conjure up images in your mind of clean energy production: wind farms and solar panels on the tops of houses. Smart meters and energy efficient light bulbs. Recycling plants and reusable bags. A whole industry of green technology companies and eco friendly startups developed to service our sustainability needs. Classic green tech was great. It was going to solve all our problems… Only it didn’t. Despite our best efforts, we’re still heading for a climate catastrophe. More than half of all CO2 emissions have been produced in the last 30 years  according to the IEEP , so we’re now significan

Carbon credits vs. donations vs. purchasing impact: What’s the difference?

People are becoming increasingly aware of the need for climate action and social responsibility. As a result, customers now expect brands to take a more active role in making the world a better place. In fact, studies have found  88% of consumers   believe companies and brands have a responsibility to take care of the planet and its people. To preserve this planet for future generations, many businesses strive to reduce their emissions – or offset them by buying carbon credits. Companies can also prove that they’re socially and environmentally responsible by making charitable donations that support worthy causes.  But what is a carbon credit? Do charitable donations really make a difference? And is there a better way for businesses to be more sustainable? Today we’ll be exploring all this and more to see how your company can make a change.  What is a carbon credit? A carbon credit is a permit allowing the owner to emit a certain amount of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gasses. Ea

The Importance of Regeneration: a new scorecard for impact

I think a hero is any person intent on making this a better place for all people – Maya Angelou Handprint helps companies to understand the importance of regeneration so that they can make a positive impact on our planet.  For some companies, this means planting   mangroves  from the profit they make from bigger sales. While for others, it means  cleaning plastic  from the seas to celebrate corporate achievements. Today, we are seeing more companies use our platform to find impact partners and support good work all over the world. An important aspect of the regeneration movement is helping companies make decisions that align impact partnerships with core values. That’s why we launched a new Regeneration Score this year.   Importance of Regeneration Score in choosing impact partners Regeneration Score is a metric that measures impact in the context of the development needs of the benefitting communities. Therefore, providing expert guidance about the potential of impact partners. Rege
